Messaging policies

SMS Privacy Policy

How messaging information is handled when you text with any participating organization through Org Mobile, a platform operated by Hometown Tech, LLC.

Last updated:

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to SMS and MMS programs run through Org Mobile by participating schools, businesses, nonprofits, teams, and other organizations (each, an “Organization”). The Organization identified in your enrollment information or messages is responsible for its program and its use of your information. Hometown Tech, LLC provides and operates Org Mobile on its behalf.

These shared protections apply to each participating Organization's use of Org Mobile messaging. An Organization may also provide notices for its other services and records. Those notices do not authorize sharing your SMS consent for unrelated purposes or enrolling you in another Organization's program.

Information collected and its sources

Information comes from you when you enroll or exchange messages, from the Organization when its staff manage contacts and relationships, and from messaging providers when they process delivery and opt-out events. Depending on the program and your interactions, this includes:

  • Your mobile number, name, and contact details, plus relevant member, family, group, or program relationships supplied by the Organization.
  • Messages and images you send or receive, including information you choose to include in a reply.
  • Consent, opt-in and opt-out status, preferences, and related records supplied or recorded by you, staff, or messaging providers.
  • Message timestamps, sender and recipient routing, delivery status, provider identifiers, and records of staff activity within the service.

Student and minor information

Organizations serving students or minors may provide information about participants, including names, group assignments, and relationships to parents, guardians, or other authorized contacts. This information is used to support communications between the Organization and its designated contacts.

Org Mobile does not require minors to independently register for its messaging services. Organizations are responsible for determining which participant and contact information they are authorized to provide and for obtaining any notices or permissions required by applicable law.

Hometown Tech processes this information on behalf of the Organization and does not use it for advertising, independent marketing, or unrelated purposes.

How messaging information is used

Information is used to route and deliver the Organization's messages, respond to questions, maintain conversation history, administer contacts and program participation, honor consent choices, troubleshoot delivery, protect the service, and maintain accountability and compliance records.

Authorized staff can review conversations within their permitted access. Organizations may configure automated keyword matching to flag messages for review and notify selected administrators. Recipients do not see other recipients' private conversations or contact details through a group announcement.

Sharing and SMS consent protections

Mobile information, SMS opt-in data, and consent are not sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Your SMS opt-in and consent status are not shared for purposes unrelated to providing the messaging program you joined. Consent for one Organization is not transferred to another Organization.

Information needed to operate the program, including your number and consent status, may be processed by the Organization, Hometown Tech, and service providers that support hosting, storage, messaging delivery, and support, including messaging gateway providers and wireless carriers. This processing supports the messaging service and does not authorize those parties to use your SMS consent for their own marketing.

Other messaging records may be disclosed when required by law or valid legal process, or as legally permitted to protect safety and the security of the service. This does not permit the sale or marketing use of mobile information or SMS consent.

Your choices and privacy requests

Reply STOP to stop an Organization's program texts across its Org Mobile group lines. A final opt-out confirmation may be sent. Reply START to opt back into that Organization's messaging, subject to carrier restrictions and separate group preferences. Reply HELP for messaging help. See the SMS Terms of Service for more details.

Contact the Organization through its official contact channels to request access to, correction of, or deletion of messaging-related information. For questions about Org Mobile's handling of that information, contact support@hometown.tech and identify the Organization. Requests may require identity verification and coordination with the Organization. Available rights and any required retention depend on applicable law and the records involved.

Security

Org Mobile uses tenant and staff access controls to restrict access to messaging information. SMS and MMS are not end-to-end encrypted, and no transmission or storage system can guarantee complete security. Avoid sending passwords, payment details, or other highly sensitive information by text.

Data retention

Org Mobile retains messaging records, contact information, consent records, and related activity history as necessary to provide the service, meet applicable legal and contractual obligations, and preserve accountability.

Organizations may be subject to independent recordkeeping requirements that affect how long their information must be retained.

Audit records documenting system activity, message events, and administrative actions may be retained for extended periods, including indefinitely, where necessary to maintain accountability and record integrity.

Opting out of messaging does not automatically delete historical conversations or related records. Requests for deletion are evaluated in coordination with the Organization and may be subject to legal, contractual, or operational retention requirements. Attachment availability is not guaranteed.

Organization account termination

When an Organization discontinues Org Mobile, its messaging information may be retained, exported, or deleted in accordance with applicable service agreements, legal requirements, and established retention procedures.

Certain records, including consent history, delivery information, and system audit records, may be retained after termination where necessary for compliance, security, dispute resolution, or accountability.

Termination of an Organization's account does not authorize Hometown Tech to use its messaging information for unrelated purposes.

Policy updates and contact

Changes to this policy will be posted on this page with an updated date. Organizations are responsible for any additional notices or consent required for changes to their messaging programs. A policy update does not itself provide consent for additional messaging or unrelated data sharing.

For questions about this shared policy, contact Hometown Tech, LLC at support@hometown.tech. For questions about a particular message or the Organization's use of your information, contact that Organization directly.
